Apache Forest Drive, Austin, TX

Converted from an old boathouse, this A-frame unit was originally designed to accommodate its vessel in the off-season. Now, it adds extra height and spaciousness to a sub-300-square-foot tiny home located in South Austin.
Light and airy, this renter-friendly design feels both functional and delightfully personal.
While the studio is zoned for sleep, living, work, and more, the design intentionally blurs the lines between areas rather than fighting the studio layout. For example, the heirloom cedar chest functions as a nightstand, a side table, and extra seating for guests when needed. Creative use of mirrors visually extends the space and reflects natural light from the opposite windows. Suede, linen, and jute add texture, while solid wood and plenty of indoor plants bring the outdoors in.
An accent wall in the bathroom adds a touch of drama, enlivening the small space without overwhelming the main living area. Mixed storage in the kitchenette maximizes functionality without feeling overcrowded. With every detail thoughtfully considered, this tiny home feels equal parts welcoming and calming.
